Now that we’re on the road to Deliverable 3, our major task is to ensure our airframe can cope with repeated long-duration flights. Up until now, we flown our Bushmaster airframe for 15-20 minutes at a time. For the Outback Challenge we need to ensure the airframe can reliably fly for 60-90 minutes.
The major challenges here is to ensure that all the airframe fastenings do not come loose under these flight times, that the fuel tanks have enough capacity for 90 minutes flight, that the (many) cables are not shaken loose during flight and that all parts continue to work for the entire flight time.
Last weekend we had our first > 60 minute flight. It was very successful with no major problems! Now we can start installing our camera and second radio system for future flights.
