For 5-7 year olds I would look at the BBC micro:bit GO kit available immediately at Jaycar.

It is a BBC radio(?) educational product which the kids might see in STEM education in school.

Look for the simplistic on-PC programming language using drag and drop blocks.

Also at Jaycar, or the news agent, look for the DIYODE magazine and look through the ads.

Jack.

Hey Gents,

It occurred to me that you guys might have some good knowledge that could help me on the Christmas present front.

We’re thinking of getting our kids a ‘Piper’ Raspberry Pi 3 based computer for christmas so they can pick up some coding and general STEM stuff. The conversation tonight made me think that maybe a straightforward Pi 3 kit would be just as good. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Piper and any opinions on how useful it might be for the 7 year old and 5 year old?

I’m sure WA is less rubbish than Pittsburgh!

G’day All,

The weather here in WA is disappointingly rubbish; I hope it’s better flying weather in Canberra!

Here is a link to the Mumble Agenda for tomorrow night; please edit and add things as you please.
